Fools rush in
Getting to know someone on an intimate basis is always a fine balance between the thrill of what could be romance or deflecting the heartache of what could be deception. We’re both fools rushing in, eager to know everything about each other but also hesitant to reveal too much or too little. It’s like walking on egg shells. Even unintentionally, everything means something. We’re...
Change
Someone recently asked me what I believe in and the first word that came to mind was change. I could have easily said that I believe in God or science or truth, but at that moment, all I could think of was change. I’ve been dwelling on that conversation ever since. With everything I’m going through, change is the only thing that feels right. Even if it’s simultaneously...

Dear gut instinct
You’ve always saved me in the past and I really thank you for that. But just once, like now, I kinda wish you weren’t always right. Ugh! I really want this sick to my tummy feeling to go away. Can I trade it for sincerity please? Or any kind of assurance that this is the right one after all.
Thanks again, gut. You’re the best!

Level Up confronts the tension between staying true to yourself on the one hand, and being committed to familial duty on the other. As second- or third-generation Asian Americans, where is the line between choosing what you feel is right for you, and obeying the common family mandate to follow a professional career? Who really knows what’s in your best interest but you, but then again haven’t...

Her future is so open, so undefined, so unlimited. Nothing is decided yet, she can still do everything, choose everything, go everywhere. It is excited to know her story is still incomplete, that the ending is not yet determined. At the same time it is scary, if your life can go everywhere it can…
